Mater serves as Ann’s service dog and alerts her when her sugar drops, even though he was never officially “trained” to do so. He also goes to school occasionally to help educate children on the proper way to approach strange dogs that they don’t know. He introduces elementary school youngsters to the exciting world of veterinary medicine, and he loves to have preschoolers read to him. You will find Mater hanging out at the clinic greeting clients and playing with the daycare babies. He also serves as a blood donor if a baby needs blood.
